Every time i go and try something new and everything has just been okay. Is there something they excel at? I want to like it because it’s in walking distance from my house but every time it feels just eh. I’ve had the pad see ew, panang curry, chicken larb and Thai egg roll (I do love the Thai egg roll).

Does anyone know of someplace or someone locally who sells Puerto Rican-style sofrito?

I’m specifically looking for the traditional green-style sofrito with recao/culantro, ají dulce, peppers, onion, garlic, etc. I’m not really looking for the red, tomato-based Goya sofrito.

I’ve been thinking about making a big batch myself, and I’m actually considering renting time in a local commercial/ghost kitchen to prepare it properly and potentially sell it in small batches here in Denver. Obviously, I’d need to get a food safety certification first.

I had a hard time finding 25lb bulk flour without paying a lot for shipping, but I found a local restaurant supply store that has 50lb bags. It’s easier for me to store 25lbs, so I was wondering if anyone would like to split a 50lb bag? They have a variety of bread flours, but the King Arthur Special Patent Flour would be about $10 per person/25lbs.

As a recovering coffee snob during the times of insane inflation and tariffs, I’m amazed by what the craft coffee industry has become. This past year to 18 months I’ve capitulated and switched to purchasing what I can tell to be single origin Peruvian sourced beans from 2 different brands at Costco. I’ve been doing this for a while as it’s $17 (EDIT: to $22) for a 2.5 lb bag and doesn’t taste burnt like all of the other crap does.

For my birthday a couple months ago I went to a couple of my old favorite coffee shops in Denver to pick up some beans for pour overs at home and the free coffee that comes with it. At the time, I was taken aback by $25 for a 12oz bag. Like when did that become the norm, used to be $18-$22. I was so appalled that I decided to just go home without coffee on my hour long round trip, but did make it worth while with other goodies on my return.

Fast forward to today, and I’m feeling extra stupid for wanting to pay an outrageous price for coffee beans, so I go back to my favorite shops and find that now it is $25 for a 10 oz bag!! What in the actual F!? That was the last bag of beans I’ll ever purchase from one of my beloved and highly held coffee shops. I felt our city had many, but they have utterly and completely jumped the shark. Insane pricing for a commodity that they’re warehousing and distributing, especially when I’m buying natural beans.

The stalled front over the Plains is forecast to move southward
Sunday with showers and storms developing along it across parts of
the TX Panhandle into OK. These storms may develop over ares of very
dry fuels with the potential for lightning. While some risk for
strikes is possible, slow storm speeds and increasing moisture along
the front suggest limited potential for dry storms.

...Northwest and northern Rockies...
Another day of showers and storms is likely Sunday as the upper

Police say it appears Maikel Garresquero Mavo was lured to the location, potentially in relation to a "prior dispute," before being killed.

Davidson Semeco-Acurero, 18, is accused of shooting and killing the victim, and a 17-year-old male and 13-year-old female were also allegedly involved in the murder, police said in a Friday release. All three are being held on suspicion of first-degree murder, police said.

Officers responded to the 4100 block of West Custer Place around 11 p.m. Aug. 6 and found Mavo in the passenger seat of a car that had crashed into a parked vehicle.

Police believe when Mavo and the driver of the car arrived, the three suspects "quickly approached" the car and fired shots.

The car then collided with the parked car, and the driver fled on foot, according to police.

Detectives are still working to identify the driver, who police say may have also been injured.

I’m NEW NEW to running. Like less than 6 months kind of new. I enjoy it! I did a 5k and have some 10ks coming up. But this week I’ve been frustrated because even when I think my time is improving…… it’s not. It seems like my body is physically incapable of a sub 13 min/mile unless I’m running downhill. When do you start to get faster? 🤣

I tried to look this up, but I haven't been able to find an actual answer.

I've been applying for work on one of the various work sites and I've come across a posting that mentions that they won't consider applicants unless they include a copy of their MED license. I was under the impression companies can easily look you up on the MED site, so why do they need a copy of the license? Should I already be including the license number with my resume? Or are they stinky scammers trying to harvest MED licenses?

Alexei Munive-Rodriguez, 48, is believed to be armed and dangerous and remains at large, Northglenn police said in a Saturday morning release.

So, I’m trying to get more protein in the morning, as I find it helps kickstart my ADHD brain into normal functioning. The thing is, I have IBS and some food restrictions that make it hard to find something that works. In comes Greek Yogurt.

I really want to like greek yogurt, but there are some things I struggle to get over - namely the after taste and the dry/chalky feeling it leaves in my mouth. It’s kinda a thing with any yogurt, to be fair, but greek yogurt tends to be especially rough. It’s acidic and a bit sour, which I can struggle with. Does anyone have any neat tips/tricks for improving these issues??

Hi all, I am soon about to move into my first apartment. due to this, i am going to begin to make my own meals far more. i have also been trying to lose weight, but i feel it can be harder since i am soon having to pay for my own groceries rather than my dad. due to this, i am unsure of good receipts to make that are both cheap and low calorie, yet still tastes good. Any advice?

Plateaued at 75 mins for the past 3–4 months. As advised by many here I finally stopped obsessing over HR for my easy runs and started running more by feel

Did 2 speed sessions weekly..tempo + 4*4 VO₂ intervals.. finally witnessed the result today

I turn 45 soon. That’s half way to 90. I’ve been running since mid-April this year and I got up this morning and wondered if I could run a marathon. So I did. My own personal birthday marathon. No medal. No finish line. No aid stations. No fun spectator signs. Just me, my audiobook, and some grit. Never in my life did I expect to be able to say that I could run a marathon. I’m tired now.

My grandfather was a farmer and also a cheesemaker on the side (true polymath) and my dad told me my grandpa used to throw whey, which in the past was considered waste byproduct during the cheesemaking process, in the local torrent

Nowdays Whey protein from the site i usually buy from is 50€ for 907g. This is all because they are putting whey into everything, protein cookies, protein gummy bears and so on.

Its an absolute shame that high quality supplements are becoming far less affordable for the general population. Also a piece of advice, casein protein is far cheaper than whey (30€ for 1kg) and it has the same aminoacid profile, soy protein is even cheaper but the aminoacid profile is slightly worse than casein.

I ran slow, at some points I felt like I could go fast but didn’t because I wanted this to be a no break run. Happened for the first time and the finish felt like I had more in the tank.

First time poster, first half marathon I was really happy doing this route that had been on my mind for a couple of months

Been training for a full one this year, ran my first half marathon distance today. 2:15 is quite an average (maybe even slightly below) time but I don't care, I'm happy! Got a lot of helpful tips on longer running - that I need more water and chocolate will melt in my belt and be unusable after a while. Super fun regardless, onward and upward!

I've been running since December and one thing that consistently seems to happen during my harder efforts is getting really bad stitches (7-8/10 pain) to the point I can't maintain my desired pace.

I feel like I've tried everything from this very extensive post from /u/CodeBrownPT I've also tried various breathing techniques and I've even gone to the doctor, who told me there was nothing that could be done.

I'm at my wits end. I'll normally get at least two bad stitches that last for a long time (today I had them for about 10k out of 19k) and I try my best to run through them but sometimes the pain is just too much. This also happened about a decade ago too when I was running a little. It's a very frustrating feeling because often I can feel the rest of my body is capable of what I'm asking of it.

For context, my 5k PB is 19:10, aiming for a half marathon time of 90:00, I'm male, in my mid-30s, running most days.

Does anyone have anything else I can try? Anybody similar out there?

I've never ran 5km before. Normally I just do 3km and 2km or 2km of running + 3km of walking. This is my first 5km ever, as an absolute beginner 😁.

I have a can of salmon I need to use up. I would normally put an egg, flour, and cornmeal in it. What are some other ways to use it that wouldn’t acquire as much flour or cornmeal? TIA

For the past year I have fixed up my diet mostly and dropped around 20kg along with exercise. Its taken a lot of willpower. My only issue is I fucking struggle to kick soft drinks, it is so hard to resist its annoying. I have given up on trying to cold turkey them and I am now looking for a replacement. For me I know its the bubbles and flavour I love. I tried doing 0 sugar drinks and they fucking suck. I have tried sparkling water but it tasted horrible to me. Please help me.

Hey everyone! I'm a pretty new runner, trying to build a consistent habit. One thing I've noticed is that I keep running the same 1-2 routes near my place, and it's starting to feel a bit repetitive. I know I probably should explore more, but I don't always know where to go, so I just default back to what's comfortable.

How do you all deal with this? Do you tend to stick to the same routes, or do you actively try to switch it up? What actually gets you out exploring new areas instead of just running what you already know?

Also curious, what app do you use to track your runs? Does it give you a sense of achievement, or is it more just for logging the numbers? And has anyone tried those gamified running apps where you "capture territory" as you go? Curious if that kind of thing actually helps with the boredom, or if it's more of a gimmick.

Would really appreciate any advice, still figuring out how to stay motivated!

I'm not even sure if this is the right place to post this, but I can't find anywhere else with this specific tag. I'm a single mom of twin toddlers and I rely on TANF to survive. CCAP has been frozen since January 2025, so I can't get a job even though I'd desperately love to work. I don't have any close friends or family here in Colorado. Anyway, I just received an email a couple days ago about how they're not removing all individual case managers for people on Colorado works. Now, if you have any issues, you are directed to call the main number. If any of you have ever had to call that number, you know the hold time is always long. Also, there was no notice of this whatsoever. I actually had grown to really care for my case worker Karina. It was nice to be able to talk with someone about my feelings about everything that's going on, and know she understood. It was nice to be able to ask someone working in the department what's going on instead of relying on random internet posts. But most importantly, there are so many people with absolutely no support and really need that contact. Is anyone else in this situation? Who can I talk to about this? I doubt that me saying how I feel about it to an official would do anything , but I really feel like this is a huge mistake. I guarantee it has something to do with budget cuts. It's like, you've already cut so much! They took away the little transportation money we'd get every month, made it infinitely harder for those with older kids to get the food stamps they desperately need, and now this. Thank you for reading if you did. Just looking for others thoughts and solidarity. If there's somewhere better I should post this, please lmk.

Hey all. My wife and I have lived in Denver for 8 years now. We just had a kid and now need to find a larger space to rent. We’re evaluating our next move and wanted to get some intel on what might be a great spot for young families within ~20-30 minutes of the city.

Our priorities are safety and proximity to walkable areas so we can pull the stroller out and go. We’ve been in the city this whole time and are okay with something a little further out. That said, we’re aware of neighborhoods like Tennyson, edgewater, wash park, etc. but would love to hear some more ideas that offer a great lifestyle.

Regarding budget, we’d like to keep it under 4k/mo.

Any tips are much appreciated!

Hi Reddit…hoping for help localized to Denver. I’m hoping someone may have witnessed a hit-and-run that occurred today, Friday, August 14, at approximately 2:37 PM on I-225 eastbound, immediately after the S. Tamarac Parkway exit.

The other driver hit my vehicle and initially stopped. He got out of his car and told me he was going to go get his insurance information. I naively believed him, he got back into his vehicle, reversed, and immediately took the S. Tamarac Parkway exit and left the scene.

The vehicle was a navy blue sedan, possibly a Subaru but it was raining and I can’t be sure of the make and model because my glasses also flew off my face in this collision. It appeared to have Nebraska plates. At the very least I can confirm no Colorado plates.

The driver was a white male, 30-35 years old, approximately 6'0", with a slightly athletic build, about 175 to 185 lbs, short light-brown hair, light-colored eyes (possibly blue), tattoos on both arms, and black gauges in his ears. He was wearing a gray/dark-colored cut-off or sleeveless shirt. If I saw a picture of him, I would recognize him immediately. I was able to see part of the license plate, but I am missing one number and it ends with a C. I am not completely confident in the characters because it was raining heavily and my glasses flew off during the collision.

I have filed a police report (Report #2026-4112), gone to urgent care, called insurance. I assume he didn’t have any, hence why he ran. I don't remember seeing significant damage to the other vehicle, although there may have been damage to the front of it from the collision. I sustained significant injuries in the crash, so I'm really hoping someone may have been driving through that area around 2:30ish today and either saw the collision, saw the driver get out and speak with me, saw the vehicle leave via Tamarac, or has dashcam footage from that stretch of I-225.

If you witnessed anything or have footage that might be relevant, please DM me. You can also provide the information to police and reference report 2026-4112. I realize this is a long shot, but given the circumstances, I'm hoping someone happened to see it or captured the vehicle on camera. Thank you.

Denver police said they received a report of an assault or fight outside Volt Club at 2121 S. Sheridan Blvd. just after midnight Saturday.

A security guard reportedly tried to intervene, and someone in the large group fired shots, Denver police told Denver7.

The security guard reportedly fired back, and there was then an exchange of gunfire. Police say they do not know how many people fired shots.

The security guard suffered a minor gunshot injury to the foot, and three additional gunshot victims, all of whom have "good prognoses," were taken to the hospital, police said.

An "involved" vehicle was spotted leaving the scene and DPD officers and a DPD helicopter followed.

Several people left the vehicle, and three of whom police found and took into custody, according to police. The driver kept driving, and a pursuit ensued.

"Officers stopped the vehicle using the PIT maneuver in the area of I-70 / I-25 where the driver and a passenger were taken into custody," a DPD spokesperson said in an email.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of felony eluding, per police. Police have recovered four guns thus far, and forensic investigations will determine which firearms were used in this incident, police said.

"Additional arrests are possible as investigators continue gathering information and conducting interviews in this complex investigation to determine the involvement of the multiple people contacted and/or detained during this incident," a DPD spokesperson told Denver7.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers.

The debate is centered upon gender-affirming surgery, which encompasses a range of procedures. Specifically, the ballot measure would ban minors from receiving that kind of medical treatment.

Initiative #110 submitted more than 164,000 petition signatures, sending what those behind the measure have dubbed the "Protect Children From Irreversible Sex Change Surgery Act" to the November ballot.

The final text of the measure states that children "lack the maturity to make permanent, life-altering medical decisions." It continues to say that Colorado law already sets an age requirement for decisions like consuming alcohol and smoking, and argues that the same should go for gender-affirming surgery.

If Colorado voters approve Initiative #110, minors would be prohibited from receiving gender-affirming surgeries in the state. In addition, no state or federal funds, Medicaid reimbursements, or insurance coverage could be used to pay for such "prohibited medical interventions."

This week, the federal administration announced that Medicaid will not fund gender-affirming surgeries or hormone treatments for minors.

Protect Kids Colorado, an organization that seeks to "mobilize the people of Colorado and the Church to engage with biblical and biological truth," is behind Initiative #110.

Denver7 spoke with two mothers who hold different opinions on the proposal, along with a doctor who believes politics should not play into the relationship between a physician and their patients.

When Kelli McKay-Conrady first heard her child speak their truth, she said she did her best to support them in whatever way possible.

She told us her name was Jessica, and we're like, okay, that's great," McKay-Conrady said. If your child comes out as being heterosexual, no one really questions that.

The mother of two said there were countless conversations with both doctors and therapists to help the entire family through the process, which began when Jessica was 13-years-old.

"It's not something that we take lightly as a family, and it's a big change. But Jessica's transition has been a slow, gradual process," said McKay-Conrady. She received a hormone blocker... All that hormone blocker does is just pause puberty. It doesn't change anything.

That was when the family was living in Oklahoma, and McKay-Conrady said it was before Gov. Kevin Stitt signed bill into a law that banned hormone therapies for minors in the state. The family decided to leave Oklahoma at that point and relocate to Colorado.

"I wanted her to feel like she was in a place where she was more protected," said McKay-Conrady, who feared for her daughter's mental health.

McKay-Conrady said the family has felt more at ease since living in Colorado, but has not been insulated from changes on the national level. For example, earlier this year Children's Hospital Colorado and Denver Health announced they would suspend gender-affirming care for patients under the age of 18 as the result of increasing pressure from federal health officials.

Her daughter is now 17 and on the verge of becoming an adult, but McKay-Conrady is deeply concerned about Initiative #110.

"It is my opinion that the government should not have anything to do with medical care that is happening in the doctors' offices. They are not trained professionals; they are politicians," said McKay-Conrady. They take one step. I'm afraid they're going to take the next step. And to me, this is a slippery slope... I don't quite understand why we are going after such a small, vulnerable community that is already under attack, that is already having to deal with a lot of pressures of life.

According to a study that reviewed a national pediatric surgical database and was cited by the Human Rights Campaign, 0.04% of all transgender youth across the country received some kind of gender-affirming surgery between 2018 and 2021.

Here in the state of Colorado, surgery for a minor is exceptionally rare, if not at all," said Dr. Drew Updike, who practices internal medicine. This ballot measure seems to be a ballot measure with some sort of solution about gender identity, but no actual problem."

Updike gave Denver7 his professional opinion on Initiative #110, which does not reflect his practice.

As a modern day doctor, I believe that every patient has the right to choose their medical care, right? And I think that each child, each parent, each physician should be able to engage in the free exchange of medical advice, treatment plans, and the things that they believe are best for them," Updike said. "What it [Initiative #110] is doing is it's inserting the government, it's inserting activists, and it's inserting advocates that are, again, not part of the doctor-patient relationship, into the exam room in order to try to choose what's best for somebody else.

On the other side of the issue is Kinsey Ringenberg, a mother of three children who spent 14 years as a physician assistant working in pediatric and adolescent medicine.

Every teenager is going to face identity challenges in some way or shape. It's a normal part of teen development, but when they have time to figure that out, it gives them the opportunity to make life-altering decisions for their body when they're an adult, and I think that is why I love this ballot measure," Ringenberg said. "It's specific to kids under 18, and it's specific to surgical intervention.

Ringenberg told Denver7 she is not a member of Protect Kids Colorado, but she did help collect signatures for Initiative #110.

Most people are not on the extremes of either side of this issue. Social media will have you believe otherwise, but it's not true," said Ringenberg. "I think there is still a lot of room for parents and educators and therapists to come alongside and support individuals without surgical care.

Ringenberg did not shy away from questions about how rare gender-affirming surgery is for minors.

"If it's only for a small amount of kids, why do we need a ballot measure for that? Right? I mean, it's a very fair question," Ringenberg said. "Yet, when it's you or your kid, and it affects the rest of your life, we should all be wanting to provide that extra time to give kids the opportunity to allow their identity and their frontal lobe to develop before that life-altering surgical procedure.

Denver7 asked Ringenberg if she believes this is an anti-transgender measure.

It does affect a small subset of kids, like we're talking about, but it does not cover the entirety of gender medicine, and so I wouldn't consider this an anti-trans measure," said Ringenberg.

Now, Coloradans must decide how to vote on Initiative #110, with the 2026 General Election on Nov. 3.
